A shiny silver Miao hat stands at the entrance to the north end of the charming Xiangxi Cultural Square in Zhangjiajie. This hat is called “Ma Ru Dai Pa”——(simplified Chinese: 玛汝黛帕; pinyin:Mǎ rǔ dài pà) (referring to beautiful girl in Miao language). It is 9.9 meters high, 3.5 meters in diameter, and weighs 600 kilograms. The whole body is made of 400 kilograms of Miao silver plated with handmade soap beating technique. The world’s largest and heaviest seedling cap.
As the saying goes in Miao Township: “Without silver or flowers, you cannot be a girl”. Miao women must wear silver jewelry when they get married. For thousands of years, it is said that silver ornaments have the effect of eliminating calamities and exorcising evils and diseases. Miao silver ornaments have brought light and blessings to the survival and development of Miao people. According to the Zhangjiajie Charming Xiangxi Grand Theater, the giant Miao hats erected in the square were handcrafted by 28 folk craftsmen in 181 days, aiming to show tourists from all over the Xiangxi Miao silver jewelry culture.
Zhangjiajie Charming Xiangxi has received 17 million visitors from all over the past 20 years since its inception. It has successively won honors such as “China’s Well-known Trademark”, National Cultural Industry Demonstration Base, and “Top Ten Chinese Tourism Performing Arts Institutions”.
